Ingredients

  • For the Cobbler:
  • 3 tablespoons real butter no substitutions
  • ½ cup self-rising flour
  • ¼ cup self-rising flour used separately from the first ½ cup
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar separate from the first ½ cup
  • cup whole milk
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ¼ tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar separate from the first ½ cup
  • ½ cup hot water

Method

  1. Preheat the Oven:
  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Melt the Butter:
  4. Melt the butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish in the preheating oven. Keep an eye on it and remove it once fully melted.
  5. Prepare the Batter:
  6. In a mixing bowl, combine the self-rising flour, granulated sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon. Stir just until everything is combined—do not over-mix.
  7. Assemble the Cobbler:
  8. Pour the prepared batter over the melted butter in the baking dish. Do not stir.
  9. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top of the batter.
  10. Add Hot Water:
  11. Carefully pour the hot water over the top of the batter and brown sugar. Do not stir; the water will help create a syrupy layer under the cobbler as it bakes.
  12. Bake:
  13. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cobbler is bubbling around the edges.
  14. Serve:
  15. Let the cobbler cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
