Ingredients

  • For the Cobbler:
  • 3 tablespoons real butter no substitutions
  • ½ cup self-rising flour
  • ¼ cup self-rising flour used separately from the first ½ cup
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar separate from the first ½ cup
  • cup whole milk
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ¼ tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar separate from the first ½ cup
  • ½ cup hot water

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Melt the Butter:
  • Melt the butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish in the preheating oven. Keep an eye on it and remove it once fully melted.
  • Prepare the Batter:
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the self-rising flour, granulated sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon. Stir just until everything is combined—do not over-mix.
  • Assemble the Cobbler:
  • Pour the prepared batter over the melted butter in the baking dish. Do not stir.
  • Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top of the batter.
  • Add Hot Water:
  • Carefully pour the hot water over the top of the batter and brown sugar. Do not stir; the water will help create a syrupy layer under the cobbler as it bakes.
  • Bake:
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cobbler is bubbling around the edges.
  • Serve:
  • Let the cobbler cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
